Thursday Club Wedding: Jacque and James, Part Two

After Part I of Jacque and James' wedding day, these two were ready for their ceremony and reception at The Thursday Club, all coordinated by the lovely Courtney of Breezy Day Weddings.

One of the way in which Jacque, James, and I bonded was over our mutual love for travel, so I was beyond excited to hear that their Thursday Club reception would be travel themed! With paper airplane nameplates and photos commemorating many of the global locations they have visited together, Heather of Breezy Day Florals completed the decor with her magical floral touches!

Before walking into this gorgeous reception that would later turn into an awesome dance party, Jacque and James requested sunset photos at Sunset Cliffs. With one last chance of taking in the day together, just them two, I encouraged them to take in what they saw, what they smelled, what they heard. Whenever they wanted to be transported back to this day and all of the wonderful feelings that came along with it, they can tap on the memory of these senses.

Jacque and James, you know I adore you! When a Type A couple meets and Type A photographer, we are a match made in heaven! I will forever be grateful that you allowed me to document your day, will adore you forever for being so organized and sharing a similar vision as me, and I do want to visit you in Chicago one day :) xo, Evelyn

Tom Ham's Lighthouse Wedding: Carly and Alex, Part Two

Knowing Carly and Alex are true adventurers, willing to take risks - in forms of time, comfort, or even weather - to get what they wanted on their wedding day, I asked Carly, "If time were not an issue, where would you dream of having your portraits taken?" Without hesitation she said, Sunset Cliffs. This long stretch of cliffs overseeing the Pacific Ocean in San Diego is one of Carly and Alex's favorite places, where we took their engagement photos, and what Carly envisioned as the perfect backdrop.

I said, "Let's make it happen" and with a few tweaks to the schedule, Carly got her wish to be held by the man of her dreams, standing on the cliffs she loves, with the perfect amount of wind blowing through her hair on her wedding day.

Returning to an epic reception at Tom Ham's Lighthouse, Carly and Alex's tight bonds with friends and family was truly evident as speech after speech resulted in laughs and cheering and some tears, only for the party to get truly started with traditional Greek dance moves - including a flip! - by Alex!

Carly and Alex, I smile as I type this because I know I can always count on you both to be fun and willing to push the envelope. Alex, I loved how you had a list of very serious questions for me over our first coffee - it meant how serious and involved you were in wedding planning - and I admired that! Carly, my dearest Carly! You energy is infectious and how you speak to people, myself included, is so warm and caring. Thank you both for allowing me to capture your special day! xoxo, Evelyn

Sunset Cliffs Engagement Session: Berenice and David, Part II

Berenice, David, and I had already spent a part of the afternoon shooting their engagement session in Downtown San Diego and came up to Sunset Cliffs for the second part where the laughing didn't stop between them. Neither did the smiles, or hand holding, or sweet gazes at each other for no particular reason. Berenice and David are totally smitten for each other.

Bere and David love to go dancing and will be having a Latin band perform at their wedding, playing everything from salsa to merengue to cumbia. When I asked to see some of their moves, it was no surprise to see these two can tear it up on any floor!

Bere and David: thank you for such an amazing afternoon. The love you share is an inspiration, and shooting your engagement session has me even more so very HYPED to be photographing your Los Angeles wedding in two short months.  It cannot come soon enough! xo, E

Sunset Cliffs Portraits: Tom & Adam

Tom and Adam met in Philadelphia when Tom frequented the gym where Adam worked the front counter. A year of flirtation and one gym staff/member party later, Tom and Adam were a couple.

Fast forward 5+ years, Tom and I meet. He likes to talk, I like to talk, and we both moved from the East Coast to San Diego: insta-friends! It wasn't until Tom started leaving funny comments on my Instagram account photos (i.e. "Stop taking photos of other men. It makes me jealous! Haha")  that we decided to plan a portrait session for him and Adam to showcase their love and glimpse of their new West Coast home.
